OUR STORY
THE CRAFT
Iris Asher is the founder, designer and leathersmith at Lunasa Leather. She began working with leather in 2008, inspired by saddlery, shoemaking, and bag making.
Growing up surrounded by horses and other animals on a farm in the Pacific Northwest, the scent and textures of leather informed her curiosity and creative drive. Desiring to reproduce heritage hunting totes and equestrian accessories for daily use, she began marrying utilitarian design and functional elegance in her creations. This pairing continues to be her focus from the drawing table to the final rivet, prioritizing minimal waste and conscious craftsmanship. Dedication to minimal waste, conscious sourcing and and refined craftsmanship are central tenets. We believe that fast fashion is exploitive in myriad ways, and we hold at center a "fewer, finer" ethos that directs our leather sources, designs and production. Traditional craftsmanship ensures a lifetime product that can handle the daily grind, and a heritage carry that gets better with time.
Honoring nature, the change that comes with each new season, and the lunar and solar cycles is a central tenet at Lunasa Leather, in addition to nurturing compassionate stewardship and respectful relationship with the other beings we share our world with. It is of paramount importance that Lunasa Leather reflect these core values in each piece Iris creates, and through each decision made regarding business practices. You may trust that your carry purchase supports integrity through the entire chain of production.
